This week, conservatives ate another one of their own.
In an effort to continue to be “Silos of Perfection” in which conservatives are held to nearly impossible standards or they are not considered “true” conservatives, our own movement abandoned one of our fiercest, boldest, and most unafraid fighters.
Milo Yiannopoulous was uninvited from delivering the keynote address at the Conservative Political Action Committee’s (CPAC) annual gathering.
Let’s put it out on the table right now. What Milo said was not productive. In the wrong context, it could be construed as promoting pedophilia.
In an interview Milo gave years ago which “somehow” came to light this week, he discussed how “coming of age” relationships between older men and younger “boys” (a word he regrets using, as he meant young men of consensual age) help them cope with their sexuality.
Milo said, in part: “You know, people are messy and complex. In the homosexual world particularly. Some of those relationships between younger boys and older men, the sort of coming of age relationships, the relationships in which those older men help those young boys to discover who they are, and give them security and safety and provide them with love and a reliable and sort of a rock where they can’t speak to their parents.”
In a narrow window, this quote and others could be construed as condoning pedophilia, and the un-invitation from CPAC makes it clear his words would not be condoned.
However, while some of Milo’s comments were very “Milo” in effect—and could be considered outlandish and inappropriate—he was more or less speaking about coming out of the closet as a young gay man himself, and how, in the gay community there are often older men who help those young men accept and understand their sexuality.
In the heterosexual community we see younger women with older men every day and no one bats an eyelash. Why should that be any different with the gay community?
While some of Milo’s comments were disturbing, do they rise to the level of a Lena Dunham admitting she molested her sister in writing? How about Sarah Silverman, Kathy Griffin, and Al Franken making jokes about pedophilia? Did they lose their livelihoods? Did Madonna, who essentially made a terrorist threat against Donald Trump and his family, get dropped from her record label?
As always, the Left laughs off and excuses bad behavior or a poor choice of words when it comes to their own vaunted liberals.
Saul Alinsky, the famous leftist who helped radicalize Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton (among many others), saw politics as war. He talked about polarizing and then destroying a target—no matter the consequences. Leftists have perfected it on conservatives.
We must not fall prey to the same tactics that they are trying to employ on Milo. He has clarified his statements, and revealed that he was a victim of child abuse—so pedophilia is not something he takes lightly. Due to his investigations, he has personally outed three pedophiles—one of whom is slated for trial in May.
But no matter his explanations, he was disinvited from CPAC–an organization I was very excited to see welcome an openly gay conservative man. I have wanted for years for conservatives to open their minds to different kinds of conservatives, especially those in the gay community.
I was very excited to see Milo, this brave fighter and champion of freedom and speaker of truth about the Left, radical Islam, political correctness, and the whole lot of it, speaking at such an important event.
I have personal experience with this leftist witchhunt. It is impossible to monitor every word you say 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week–and that is what the Left expects of conservatives. Their own acolytes? They can do whatever the hell they want and nothing ever happens to them.
As conservatives it is imperative that we stand behind fighters who are also human beings and make mistakes. None of us is perfect and none of us would want our every single word and action scrutinized under the public eye.
For years, liberals have gotten a pass on being the most degenerate humans possible. We have a man who is under siege by the left every single day and it is our duty not to abandon him.
But, alas. It’s too late.
